Our editorial approach

How we choose and check Alhambra visits

Alhambra Guide is an independent comparison guide edited by Clara Whitaker. We explain the differences between real booking options so you can choose with fewer assumptions.

Who edits this guide

Clara Whitaker edits Alhambra Guide. She is from Edinburgh and lives in Granada. She compares every tour by the exact booking option a visitor selects, re-reads the Patronato’s official ticket pages before the dates shown on each page, and keeps the date of every check. We do not claim to have taken the tours described.

What we check

We read the option details together with the supplier’s itinerary, inclusions, exclusions, language, group size, meeting instructions and cancellation terms. When fields disagree, we state the conflict or withhold the option. We do not claim to have taken every tour or invent professional credentials.

Our judgement on each option

Each of the 82 exact booking options has an individual editorial assessment: who it fits, when to choose another option, the decisions that matter and specific alternatives with reasons to compare. These are our assessments of the published evidence, not reports of having taken the tours. We distinguish admission from guiding, exact option details from product-wide descriptions, and confirmed limits from approximate claims.

The individual editorial reviews were recorded on 28 October 2026. Supplier evidence remains dated 27 October 2026; editing a page does not refresh its source data. We retain dated evidence for each assessment and re-review affected options when that evidence changes.

Ratings and selection

A provider product must have a combined rating of at least 4.5/5 when rounded to one decimal, with at least 20 reviews. The rating can cover several languages and booking options. It is not a rating of the particular option shown here. We show Viator and Tripadvisor separately, using the rating and review count supplied for each platform. Both scores cover the whole product. The selection threshold and default order use the combined product rating and review total.

Default order uses a weighted score: (review count × unrounded rating + 100 × 4.5) ÷ (review count + 100). This balances the observed score with review volume. The score is only for ordering; the displayed platform scores are the actual source ratings. Editorial starting picks add a specific reason to choose and a material tradeoff.

A collection has no fixed size limit. An offer may belong to several relevant collections; one product has one representative option within a collection. Material alternatives remain on their own option pages and in the full catalogue. Filters appear at eight options.

Sources and freshness

Supplier facts and aggregate ratings were checked on 27 October 2026. Every day our server re-reads each published product from the supplier: ratings and review counts are refreshed automatically, and a tour’s checked date advances only when the facts behind the option (route, options, duration, inclusions, meeting arrangements) are unchanged. A product that stops being offered, or falls below our rating and review threshold, loses its booking button the same day; a changed fact holds that option until an editor reviews the source. We completed the returned pages of nine defined searches, then inspected relevant products and their options. This is coverage of those searches, not a claim to mirror every offer on Viator.

Prices and available places are checked with the booking provider for your date, party and exact option. We do not turn a product’s lowest advertised price into a quote for another option. Official visitor rules are linked next to the guidance they support.

How this guide is funded

We may receive a commission when you book through a Viator link. The official ticket office is also linked so you can compare admission alone with a tour. We do not sell tickets or handle booking changes. Read the affiliate disclosure.

Photography

The homepage panorama is Alhambra evening panorama from Mirador San Nicolás by Slaunger, used under CC BY-SA 3.0 ES. It is resized and cropped for the layout; this adaptation is offered under the same licence. It shows the complex from San Nicolás, not a tour participant’s view.

Tour-card photographs come from the corresponding supplier’s product gallery on Viator. Each image is checked against the selected option’s route and credited beside its use. Illustrations of a different time of day are labelled. Photographs do not establish an option’s inclusions.

The palace detail and Generalife photographs are supplier-provided images from the NHUE and Granada Turismo y Ocio offers on Viator, credited next to each use. When illustrating a destination guide or a different tour, they are labelled as location illustrations. They do not establish an option’s inclusions.
