Choosing your visit

Is the Alhambra worth visiting without the Nasrid Palaces?

Alhambra Guide editorial teamUpdated

Our take

Yes, if your priority is the Generalife, gardens and fortress. We would choose another date if seeing the Nasrid palace interiors is the main reason for your trip. The Gardens, Generalife and Alcazaba ticket leaves those interiors out; it is a different visit, not a substitute for palace admission.

What stays in the visit?

The official gardens ticket covers the Generalife palace and gardens, Partal and Alcazaba. The Generalife palace is a different place from the Nasrid Palaces: seeing the word ‘palace’ in a description is not enough to establish which interiors you can enter.

When we would choose it

Treat this as a deliberate choice about what you want from the day. We think it works best when the landscape and outdoor route are part of the attraction, or when you have already seen the Nasrid interiors and want a different emphasis.

A return visit
You can give the gardens and fortress your attention without trying to repeat every part of a previous trip.
A fixed day in Granada
If your date cannot move, decide whether this route interests you on its own. Compare it with the other things you would actually do that day.
A first visit centred on the palaces
We would keep looking for palace-inclusive admission or reconsider the date. A different route will not deliver the rooms you travelled to see.

How to compare a gardens tour

Start with the admission line, then decide whether you want a guide. Ask which spaces the selected booking option enters, whether admission is supplied, and how the walk is organised. A photograph of a palace courtyard is not an inclusion.

We would not book a gardens-only visit on the assumption that it can be upgraded later. Make the purchase acceptable as it stands. If palace admission is essential, choose an option that explicitly includes it and check the final reservation for your date.
